Sending a Consultation Summary via NHS GP Connect

For certain clinical use cases, you may prefer to use the NHS GP Connect Service to send consultation summary documents to a patient's GP Practice through Quicksilva's conneQt Platform. This method allows users to send 'GPConnect' type messages, which are routed via GP Connect instead of the conneQt Platform Send Consultation route.

When is GP Connect Routing Appropriate?

GP Connect routing is suitable for your use case if:

  • You intend to send consultation summaries.
  • You want to send consultation summaries to any English GP Practice for any patient without an existing relationship with the practice or ICS/CCG.
  • You intend to direct the documents based on verified patient demographics (NHS Number, Date of Birth, Surname).
  • You believe that the GP Connect model of document transfer better aligns with your clinical risk profile.

Requirements for Using GP Connect

Using GP Connect requires approval from NHS Digital for your specific use case and additional system requirements, such as:

  • Obtaining PDS Verified NHS Numbers for the patient subject.
  • Obtaining and providing SDS User Information for the clinician sending the document.
  • Producing GP Connect format-compliant 'Consultation Summary' PDF documents.
  • Meeting other 'sender' relevant SCAL requirements imposed by NHS Digital.

You can contact Quicksilva directly to discuss GP Connect usage and requirements for your system.

Advantages of Using conneQt for GP Connect

There are several advantages to using conneQt for GP Connect over direct access:

  • Simple API and technical integration requirements with a 2 endpoint REST API.
  • Reduced compliance burden as conneQt handles many compliance aspects.
  • Assistance with the compliance process managed by Quicksilva.
  • Potential easy integration with the conneQt Platform Send Consultation route.

conneQt GP Connect API

The conneQt 'GP Connect' service extends the existing 'message transfer' API with added data items in your client's messages. For sending messages, see Send Message (GP Connect), and for querying messages statuses, refer to Query Message Status (GP Connect).

Additional Compliance Requirements

Using GP Connect will impose NHS Digital compliance requirements on your client system. Quicksilva can assess your system and use case to offer tailored assistance in meeting these requirements. Contact Quicksilva directly for more information on the process.
